ABC Results Jul-Dec 2006:Q Mag Remains King Of Music Sector Despite Circulation Decline

Music Magazines Emap Performance’s Q magazine has proved to be the top of its sector once again, despite a considerable year on year and period on period decline in circulation, according to yesterday’s July to December 2006 ABC data.

Q recorded a loss of almost 17% year on year (11.4% period on period) equating to an actual fall of more than 28,000 copies. The market-leader now reports a total ABC of 140,282, whilst other Emap title in the sector, Mojo, follows with a total of 114,183. Mojo was down 5.3% year on year, a loss of over 6,000 in real terms, whilst the title also saw a fall of 6.2% period on period.

IPC’s Uncut managed to boost its circulation by 5.5% period on period, but still recorded a downturn of almost 15% year on year. The title lost more than 16,000 copies in real terms year on year to leave its total at almost 94,000.

The publisher’s other major player in the sector, NME, recorded around a 5% year on year dip in its ABC figure and a 1.6% loss period on period. Today’s data reveals a total circulation of around 73,000 for the long-standing brand, whilst Development Hell Ltd’s dance title, Mixmag, shed 7.6% year on year to leave its final figure at 39,017.

Rock Sound remained static at around 23,000 whilst Kerrang!, Classic Rock, Metal Hammer and freebie The Fly pushed their circulations up.

Future Publishing’s Classic Rock experienced a 25% year on year boost to its total, a 12% boost period on period. The title now holds an ABC of 62,699, whilst Future’s other title, Metal Hammer, rose 11.2% year on year to leave it with a little under 50,000.

Free A5 title The Fly now holds a circulation not far off 110,000, up marginally year on year, whilst Emap’s rock bible, Kerrang!, rose more than 12% year on year to give it a final figure of 85,377.
