The UK’s national newspaper websites saw usage figures fall during September, with all audited sites recording a drop in daily average unique browsers.

The Mirror Group’s digital offering enjoyed a run of successful results prior to August but it recorded a -2.9% decline in the summer month and suffered the highest percentage decrease in September, down -15.3%.

However, MailOnline saw the biggest actual loss – down by more than 340,000 daily average unique browsers (-7.7%). Despite this, MailOnline remains the UK’s busiest site.

guardian.co.uk sits in second place but slipped below the three million mark in September after a -4.6% dip.

The Telegraph, meanwhile, recorded a -7.2% fall, which takes its total just below the two million mark. The Independent posted the smallest loss during the month, down -1.0%.

The Sun, reporting for the first time since February 2010, had a daily average unique browser count of 1.4 million in September.
