Advertorial Guidelines From PPA

The Periodical Publishers Association will this month publish what it believes to be the correct way to produce an ‘advertorial’ to ensure that magazine readers are aware that what they are looking at is an ad, not a feature.

Firstly the PPA will suggest that the word ‘advertorial’ be replaced with ‘promotion’ or ‘advertisement’ to make its point clear. A distinction must also be made between an advertorial and a ‘sponsored editorial’. The guidelines will be put before the PPA board later this year for endorsement.
