Almost A Quarter Of UK Internet Households Earn In Excess Of £50k
Almost one in four UK internet users are from households with an annual income of more than £50k, according to data from Nielsen//NetRatings.
Barclays Business Banking topped a list of online brands with the greatest concentration of wealthy visitors from a work or home computer, with 59% of its audience coming from high-income households.
Other brands featured in the top five were Companies House with 53% of its audience being wealthy, followed by Freetranslation with 51% and Interactive Investor with 49%. Arsenal FC was in fifth position.
The research found that there were four travel-related sites in the top ten, including Transport for London, Virgin Flights and American Flights, all with 42% of visitors coming from a household with an annual income of at least £50,000.
However, brand positions differed when analysing home internet users only. American Express held the top position with over a third of its audience (37%) coming from a wealthy household, followed by Transport for London (33%) and Sainsburys to You (32%).
Alex Burmaster, internet analyst at Nielsen//NetRatings, said, “A variety of sectors are represented through sites with the largest concentration of wealthy visitors. While business and finance brands are expected, many will be surprised to see the number of travel-related brands, which cover flights, hotels or just getting around London.”
