AOL to launch premium video platform

AOL has partnered with Channel 4 News, ITN and MyMovies to launch a premium video platform in the UK.

Building on AOL’s existing video offering, AOL On will provide both curated and original content in a short form version, made up of over 750,000 pieces of premium video – from news to entertainment.

Following successful launches in the US and Canada, the UK service will acquire content from Channel 4 News, ITN, Scripps Networks International, MyMovies and LittleDot, as well as leveraging international content relationships with brands such as Discovery, E Entertainment and Associated Press.

Content will be distributed through a network of publishers, including Trinity Mirror, Telegraph Media Group, TalkTalk, Local World, Videojug and TVGuide.co.uk.

AOL’s head of international, Graham Mosely, said that the service was coming to the market with a new offering at a time when there is “increased appetite and demand for online video from advertisers and consumers.”

“AOL On is already the web’s largest premium curated video library and today we’re launching with some of the UK’s leading content producers and publishers and looking forward to getting many more on board in the coming months,” he said.

AOL has announced that the service will launch for iOS and Android devices early next month, as well as striking connected TV deals with Samsung and Sony.
