Apple loses FaceTime battle

Apple was ordered to pay US$368 million following a US patent dispute over its FaceTime video calling service.

Apple will have to pay the fine to VirnetX and the ruling could affect future use of the technology in the iPhone and iPad.

Apple shares fell below US$557 yesterday. This is a fifth lower than 2 months ago when the stock reached US$705, which made Apple the most valuable company of all time.

Additionally, Apple filed a lawsuit against Samsung which brought Google’s Android operating system into the legal wranglings for the first time. The patent claims are against the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet and Google’s latest version of its mobile and tablet operating software, Android Jelly Bean.
