BBC Begins Search For New Chairman

BBC House Government officials are expected to begin the search for a new chairman of the BBC this week after the departure of Michael Grade to ITV.

According to a report in today’s Guardian, advertisements will appear in the Sunday Times and in Monday’s MediaGuardian section stressing the need for the new chairman to cope with the pressures of the digital age.

Grade left the Corporation at the end of November to become executive chairman of ITV following Charles Allen’s departure (see BBC Chairman Jumps Ship To ITV Top Job).

The Guardian says that the ad will stress the need for “a strong understanding of broadcasting issues” whilst the salary for the four-day week job has grown to £140,000 a year plus expenses.

Interviews will most likely take place in March or April and will follow the Nolan procedure for public appointments.
