BBC ‘plans to cut local radio’
In brief

The BBC reportedly plans to cut local radio content in England to save costs.

According to The Guardian, the BBC will reduce the number of weekday shows on each of its 39 local radio stations to two; a breakfast and lunchtime programme.

In the afternoons and evenings, a show will be simultaneously broadcast across multiple stations in the same region, rather than present multiple shows. Weekend programming will be run in a similar way, aside from sports content.

Recently the BBC’s local radio made headlines as ex-Prime Minister Liz Truss faced a grilling from presenters around the country.

The BBC has been contacted for comment.
