Belfast Telegraph Launches Weekend Compact Edition

Independent News and Media’s flagship Northern Ireland newspaper, the Belfast Telegraph, has announced the creation of a new compact morning edition for the Saturday market, designed to compliment its existing afternoon titles.

The newspaper claims its research has revealed a “great demand” to extend into the Saturday morning market. Belfast Telegraph editor, Edumnd Curran, stated: “People have more time to catch up on news, focus on interests such as sport and travel, enjoy lifestyle features and generally relax with a good quality read.”

He added: “From 19th February 2005 the new Belfast Telegraph on Saturday will be a substantially enhanced weekend paper with up to 128 pages providing greater news content, lifestyle features, a section of dedicated racing news as well as increased sports coverage generally, and comprehensive advertising including a new weekend property guide. The cover price of 60p on a Saturday represents excellent value for money in what is regarded as a highly competitive market.”

The new edition will carry the latest news and sport from the previous night and will be available across Northern Ireland from 7am, along with all other morning papers. The 128-page title will take the same format as the compact Indepentent newspaper.

Curran stated: “We are confident that the new compact Telegraph offers a complete weekend package and will provide existing and new readers with a new dynamic in local publishing guaranteed to become an integral part of life each and every Saturday.”
