Blinkbox shame Netflix over Hunger Games ‘exclusive rights’ claim

hunger games

After an announcement last week that Netflix is “thrilled to be the exclusive online home for The Hunger Games” in the UK and Ireland, it has come to light that they don’t actually have that much to be thrilled about.

Michael Comish, CEO of Tesco-owned Blinkbox, publicly named and shamed Netflix on Twitter for just over 18,000 followers to see, stating that the Blinkbox service, in fact, already offers the blockbuster hit for its UK subscribers, and has done since September 2012.

The tongue-in-cheek letter that begins with “Hey Ted,” (friendly enough) goes on to list a number of things that have gone on in the past six months since Blinkbox first brought The Hunger Games to its service, includinng the re-election of Obama, the surviving of the Apocalypse and the global phenomenon ‘Gangnam Style’.

So it would seem that Netflix isn’t as on the ball as it was with the re-launch of House of Cards, and that its exclusive offering isn’t so exclusive after all.

You can read the whole letter on the Blinkbox Twitter page.
