Bread week sees Bake Off pass the 10m mark on BBC One

Last night saw the third episode of The Great British Bake Off‘s (8pm) sixth series gain even more momentum as the live audience jumped all the way to 10 million viewers on BBC One.

An astounding 44% share tuned in to see a variety of disturbing 3D bread sculptures/monstrosities, proving that the already popular show’s audience can still rise given the right conditions in the kitchen.

Afterwards Anne Robinson’s latest schedule-filling magazine show somehow managed to secure the 9pm slot with a shockingly solid audience. Britain’s Spending Secrets, which basically saw Anne following around the disgustingly rich and the depressingly poor, brought in a bewildering 5.5 million viewers and a 28% share.

Meanwhile, it was once again repeat time on ITV with a two hour episode of Foyle’s War (8pm) clogging up its evening offerings. 4.3 million viewers originally tuned in to see the same instalment in January this year but last night’s second chance captured just 2.1 million viewers and a 10% share.

Over on BBC Two, Horizon: First Britons was watched by 974,000 (a 4% share) at 8pm while the lion-centric Natural World at 9pm secured 1.2 million viewers and a 6% share.

Over on Channel 4 there was a double whammy of blood and tears as Supervet In The Field (8pm) netted 1.1 million viewers and a 5% share while the traumatic real life drama of One Born Every Minute (9pm) was watched by 1.2 million viewers and a 6% share.

On Channel 5 it was business as usual with The Nightmare Neighbour Next Door (8pm) pulling 1.2 million viewers and a 5% share into its vortex of contrived conflict. Afterwards investigative reporter Paul Connolly continued on his latest ‘selfless crusade’ to raise his profile by means of stunt reporting with the second episode of Undercover Benefits Cheat (9pm) being watched by 909,000 viewers and a 5% share.

Earlier, ITV ruled the soap roost with Emmerdale securing 5.8 million viewers (a 32% share) at 7pm, followed by Coronation Street (8pm), with the latest trip to the cobbles bringing in 6.9 million viewers and a 34% share.
