Britbox UK chief steps down

Britbox UK managing director, Will Harrison, will step down from the streaming service ahead of the launch of ITVX.

In a LinkedIn post, Harrison said of his departure: “Following ITV’s announcement of their new AVOD-led strategy, and acquisition of BBC’s stake in BritBox UK, I am going to be moving on from BritBox.”

He joined Britbox UK shortly after its launch in 2019  and had previous roles at Ingenious Media and Warner Brothers.

An ITV spokesperson said the BritBox UK managing director role is not being replaced.

ITV bought the BBC’s 10% stake in the UK version of BritBox which has 733,00 subscribers and is available in over 90% of video-on-demand homes.

An ITV spokesperson said while the BBC has ceased to be a shareholder, they will continue to be a strong partner for BritBox UK and BritBox International, and ITV has agreed a new long-term content supply deal with the BBC.

ITV announced last week that BritBox and ITV Hub would be rolled into the UK’s first integrated advertising and subscription-funded platform later this year
