BT has launched a new app for its BT Total Broadband customers, allowing them to automatically connect to free and unlimited Wi-Fi.
The BT FON mobile app ensures that broadband customers can connect their iPhone and Android mobiles to Wi-Fi whenever possible.
It notifies users of the nearest Wi-Fi hot spots, and then users enter their BT username and password to access the internet.
Users have the option to choose to be automatically logged in whenever they are in a BT Wi-FI spot.
BT Fon and BT Openzone currently have 1.6 million Wi-Fi spots globally.
Internet access is free and unlimited for BT Total Broadband customers, so this app should prevent customers from facing extra costs.
John Petter, managing director for BT Retail Consumer, said: “This represents real value to our customers at a time when more and more people are using their mobile phone to access the internet.”
Apple and Android both already offer a search option for Wi-Fi connections, but often these direct users to password protected Wi-Fi, and internet access is not always free and/or unlimited.
