BT Trials Mobile Video Streaming

Telecoms giant, British Telecom, announced that it has signed an agreement to start trials of a mobile video streaming service.

BT’s innovation unit and interactive video services company, Newmediacom, have got together with MyMovies.net to bring movie related footage direct to the mobile phones of movie buffs.

All users have to do to access the simple service is send a text message to receive a set of simple instructions on how to download the movie content.

Chief executive of MyMovies.net, Dennis Edmonds, said: “This deal maintains our position as the number one on-line movie destination in the UK and lends further weight to our reputation as a source of quality, innovative services. Thanks to BT and Newmediacom, we now have the ability to deliver live movie related content direct from Hollywood and other locations to mobile phones in the UK.”

In 2003, on-line video streaming made significant headway when the market reached $991 million and is expected to grow to $4.5 billion by 2007, according to a report from In-stat/MDR (see Video Streaming Services To Flourish, Says Report).
