Capital Radio has appointed former national sales director Chris Bennett as its new Commercial Development Director.
Linda Smith, Commercial Director of Capital, announced the appointment, stating: “Capital has ambitious plans to grow its revenues in new areas. In order to do this, we have been extremely keen to select a candidate with broad commercial experience, a feel for deal making and a head for doing things differently.”

Bennett, who has been at Capital for almost ten years, is to take up the position later this month but will continue to work alongside the commercial team. Capital expects to announce the appointment of a new national sales director in the near future.
Capital Radio has had a turbulent few months as rumours that DJ, Chris Tarrant, was set to quit his lucrative breakfast show played havoc with the group’s share price.
In a recent interview with the Financial Times, Tarrant admitted Capital Radio “lost the plot” last year with its music policy and has described the station’s finance director as “a buffoon” for suggesting he would walk out on his show this year (see Good News For Capital As Tarrant Plans To Stay).
In other news, the group recently poached Emma Forbes from Chrysalis-owned Heart FM to front the new weekend breakfast show on 95.8 Capital FM (see Capital Poaches Emma Forbes From Chrysalis).
