Capital Appoints Marketing Boss For Developing Brands

Capital Radio has appointed Richard Mintz as marketing director for its developing brand stations, which include Xfm, Choice FM and Capital Gold.

The newly created position will see Mintz, formerly of BBC Worldwide and Celedor International, assume responsibility for marketing all three developing brand networks under the guidance of managing director Graham Bryce.

Mintz said: “I am really excited about my new role at Capital Radio and am looking forward to working on three very strong radio brands. Each one has a very unique and strong appeal and we will be working as a team to meet the challenge of establishing them on the national stage as influential consumer lifestyle brands.”

The restructure will also see Xfm’s head of marketing, Charlotte Soussan, promoted to head of marketing for Xfm and Choice FM. She will report directly to Mintz and will primarily be charged with developing Choice FM as the leading urban music station in London.

Commenting on the brand restructure, Bryce said: “I am absolutely delighted to have Richard joining the team in this important new role. Working alongside the marketers within the brands, I know that his varied experience in both media and consumer products will contribute significantly to the continued development of Xfm, Choice FM and Capital Gold.”

He added: “Xfm has had its best year ever and continues to be one of the strongest media brands in the UK. I am delighted to be able to extend Charlotte’s role and use her expertise and experience in our desire to develop Choice FM into the leading urban music brand in the UK.”

The latest ABC results for the three months to June reveal an impressive performance for both London’s Xfm 104.9 and Choice FM, which saw their weekly reach increase by 32% and 15.2% respectively in year on year analysis. However, Capital Gold appeared to lose its sheen with a 27.8% decline during the same period.

Earlier this week Capital and GWR agreed the terms of their proposed £711 million merger to create a single broadcaster controlling more than 40% of the radio advertising market. The deal will bring Capital FM, Classic FM and Xfm together under a single company with a combined turnover of around £243 million (see Capital And GWR Agree £711 Million Merger Terms).
