Capital’s Hold On London Tightens Despite Fall In Reach
Capital 95.8 FM continued its lead among the London Stations according to RAJAR’s audience figures for the second quarter of this year, despite seeing a slight decline in reach period on period. Meanwhile Heart 106.2 FM and Kiss 100 FM battle for second place as losses for Magic 105.4, in terms of reach and share, put it out of the running for now, despite extensive TV advertising.
Capital continues to lead the field in terms of reach, maintaining its 2.8m audience despite an overall drop of 0.1%. Heart 106.2 FM saw reach increase by 0.3% from 1.564m in the period ending March 2001 to 1.568m in the period ending June 2001. Kiss 100 FM also enjoyed a 0.9% increase to reach 1.57m this quarter. Magic 105.4, on the other hand, saw its reach fall by 9.6% from 1.428m in the period ending March 2001 to 1.291m this quarter. Choice FM London dropped 8% to 277,000 period on period, while Jazz FM saw reach slip 18.4% to 576,000.
Capital’s share rose by 0.9 percentage points, increasing its dominance over the London stations and bringing its share of listening to 11.1%. Heart 106.2 FM saw its share decrease by 0.4 percentage points, to reach 5% in the period ending June 2001. However the station still retained its lead over Kiss 100 FM in terms of share, which dropped 0.2 percentage points. Magic 105.4 saw reach slip by 1.3 percentage points from 5.9% in the period ending March 2001 to 4.6% in the period ending June 2001.
