The ITC is due to meet tomorrow to decide on the future of new national TV station, Channel 5. Proceedings at the meeting may now be swayed, however, with Carlton TV threatening to launch a judicial review if the licence is awarded to sole bidders, Channel 5 Holdings.
The new holder of the London Weekday licence is concerned about the competition that will arise from the launch of Channel 5 and is also disputing the low bid of £1000 that was offered by the consortium. If the decision goes against C5 Holdings tomorrow the ITC could still find itself involved in a court hearing, asThames may choose to follow the same path. The Commission will be examining the consortium’s finances, programming and prospects for the future, when deciding on the future of the new channel.
