CES 2014: Yahoo launches new connected TV platform

Yahoo has announced the next stage in the evolution of its connected TV platform, the Yahoo Smart TV.

Revealed this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the Smart TV will offer interactive viewing with personalised programme recommendations from TV, VoD and web services, alongside “complementary content related to the show”.

The recommendations include shows that are about to start and in-progress content, such as a football match.

Advertising will also be made ‘smarter’, so consumers can take advantage of special offers on TV ads as soon as they see them.

The corporation wrote in a blog post: “We’re excited to bring together out automatic content recognition, personalisation and TV platform to offer the perfect living room companion.”

The platform is available immediately for integration into TVs, media players and set-top boxes.

MediaTel is hosting a CES debrief at the end of this month. For more information, see our events page.
