Channel 4 once again courted controversy last night with its airing of a documentary on the fate of the photographers who were arrested after the death of Princess Diana ten years ago.
More than 3.5 million adults on average tuned in to the programme, Diana: The Witness In The Tunnel,which showed never before seen pictures of the ‘People’s Princess’ as she lay dying in a tunnel in Paris.
The documentary, which attempted to let the photographers tell their side of the story on that fateful day in 1997, gave C4 a 16% viewing share at the time, up against the semi-final of The Apprentice on BBC One.
More than 5.5 million adults on average were glued to their TV sets as the race to become Sir Alan Sugar’s newest employee went from five contenders to two. BBC One gained a 25.4% viewing share for the show, which saw ‘game-player’ Katie reject her spot in the final and walk away from the once in a lifetime opportunity.
More than 2.6 million adults on average (12.5%) tuned in to ITV1’s offering in the timeslot – a one-off Challenge Anneka special in which Anneka Rice attempted to recruit high-profile musical performers to record a CD in aid of children’s hospices throughout the UK, and then put on a gala concert to raise awareness of the cause,
Channel 4’s Big Brother, which will tonight screen an incident which has resulted in a contestant being booted off for a racist remark (see Big Bro Contestant Booted Off For Racist Comment), gained a 17.7% audience share between 10pm and 11pm, with an average of more than 3.2 million adults catching up on the day’s events in the hormone-charged house.
