Cinema Admissions Rise In 1992

Cinema admissions in Britain last year totalled 98 million, 5 million more than in 1991 and the highest figure for 12 years.

The increase is attributed to box office hits such as Basic Instinct and Hook, as well as the continuing growth of multiplex cinemas.

December was a particularly lucrative month with admissions totalling 9.8m, a 63% increase on December 1991. Films released in December included Home Alone 2 and The Bodyguard.
