City Lights Triumphs Over The Apprentice

Sir Allan Last night saw the second episode of the latest series of The Apprentice, with the teams getting two days to design a prototype of a product for dogs and pitch it to three pet stores.

Two of the contestants were fired, one because he wanted to go home to his son, the other because he was useless, and, as we all know, Sir Alan only picks the best.

The show, on BBC One at 9pm drew a peak of 4.9 million adults and managed an average audience of 4.3 million, down from the 4.7 million average who saw the opening episode of the series.

ITV1 emerged the victor in the 9pm slot however, with its hilarious comedy drama City Lights, starring the ITV stalwart Robson Green.

Following the success of the heartwarming festive special Christmas Lights and last year’s Northern Lights, Green reprised his role alongside Mark Benton, which saw the two chums forced to give up everything they loved and start new lives.

A peak audience of 5.4 million adults watched the affable losers bumble their way through myriad scrapes and close shaves, whilst 5.1 million stayed with the show all the way through its hour-long running time.

Wednesdays are becoming a veritable treasure chest of quality TV, with Channel 4’s Grand Designs also proving itself a magnet for telly addicts.

On at 9pm, a peak of 3.6 million adults watched whilst the genial Kevin McCloud oversaw this week’s couple as they took on the mammoth task of converting a derelict church into a family home.
