Clear Channel Snaps Up Edinburgh Billboard Contract

Clear Channel has secured an exclusive nine year contract with Edinburgh Council to sell billboard advertising in the city following five-way competitive pitch.

The deal represents the first time that Edinburgh Council has put a single city-wide billboard advertising contract out to tender. It will see Clear Channel assume responsibility for all billboards on council land, marking a significant coup for the company.

Commenting on the win, Jonathan Lewis, managing director of Clear Channel Billboards, said, “We are very pleased to be working with the City Council to provide high-quality, well maintained billboards which will provide the Council with revenue that will benefit the residents of Edinburgh, whilst enabling us to offer our clients the best locations available in the city.”

He added: “From an advertising perspective this win strengthens our position in Scotland where Clear Channel already has a significant 47% share of roadside advertising, the largest of any media owner.”

Clear Channel has been performing well recently and last month secured a £10 million deal with the UK’s largest owner of shopping centres in a move that will significantly strengthen its point-of-sale advertising business. The company fought off competition from rival Maiden Outdoor to secure the contract, which covers 19 major shopping malls across the country (see Adshel Secures UK’s Largest Shopping Centre Contract).
