Comcast launches feature to close gap between Twitter and TV

Comcast has launched a new feature in the US that allows subscribers to watch and record a programme from NBC Universal using a single button on Twitter.

Clicking on the ‘See It’ button will instantaneously allow Comcast users to tune their set-top boxes to the show being discussed – as well as watching on mobile devices and on-demand, and setting DVRs to record a future programme and schedule a reminder.

Users will also have the option to buy theater tickets through Fandango.

Starting in November, the social media button will be used across NBC Universal’s cable and broadcast networks, including its coverage of the Winter Olympics.

“Comcast is taking a leap forward in social TV by enabling Twitter users to more easily find and view the shows they want to watch and discover new shows,” said Brian Roberts, Chairman and CEO, Comcast. “Twitter complements the live viewing experience and is an ideal partner for Comcast and NBC Universal.”

Dick Costolo, CEO, Twitter, added: “Twitter is where television viewers come to talk about what they’re watching on TV when they’re watching it. Millions of users are exposed to the live conversation that unfolds on Twitter while a show is on the air and now, with See It, they’ll be able to tune in directly from a Tweet.”
