The Guardian has named Dan Roberts as the new national editor. His duties will include overseeing The Guardian‘s general and specialist news editors.
Roberts joined as head of business for Guardian News & Media in late 2008, moving from the Sunday Telegraph, where he was formerly deputy editor.
He is replacing Nick Hopkins, who is taking a sabbatical before returning to The Guardian next year, in a senior writing role.
This appointment is part of a reorganisation of the paper’s editorial management team.
Other changes include Charlie English replacing Harriet Sherwood as international editor, as she moved to Israel earlier this year to become Guardian News & Media’s Jerusalem correspondent.
English was the associate editor and deputy editor of the Saturday Guardian.
Stuart Millar, The Guardian news editor, is to become the web news editor, overseeing coverage on The Guardian‘s website, and Emily Wilson, The Guardian‘s features editor, has been appointed G1 editor, and is reponsible for editing the main part of the weekday paper.
Additionally, Will Woodard, formerly head of politics, has now been appointed deputy national news editor.
