Dennis Publishing is hoping to boost circulation at its flagship men’s lifestyle title, Jack, by relaunching the magazine with a new larger format.
The new look title will appear on news-stands this November and will increase in size to National Geographic proportions in an attempt to raise visibility and awareness at point of sale.
The magazine will also include more pages and will raise its cover price by 50p to £3.00. For the first time ever the title will also include covermounted promotions on the November and December editions, which will be highlighted by significant retail promotion.
Jack is also receiving a boost in its editorial ranks, with the appointment of Michael Hodge as editor and Alan Lewis as editorial consultant. Steve Read, who was launch editor of Conde Nast and Ministry’s new style title, Trash, will also join Jack’s team and is to head up a restructured art division.
Commenting on the re-vamp, Michael Hodges, the recently appointed editor of Jack (see Dennis Publishing Announces New Editor At Jack), said: “Our new format opens the possibilities for making Jack look even better and increasing its well earned reputation for great photography.”
He continued: “There is a team at Jack that any editor would be proud to work with: there is great talent here and with James Brown’s continuing involvement as consultant editorial director I can guarantee writing and ideas that stand Jack far apart from the conservative and suburban titles that have previously characterised this end of the market. I’m not declaring the revolution just yet, but we can look forward to a healthy period of civil unrest.”
The magazine’s publisher, Bruce Sandell, added: “Jack’s future at Dennis Publishing is very exciting – finally the magazine has the opportunity to fulfil its potential. The changes we are making will strengthen the product significantly. Jack has already received tremendous support from both readers and advertisers and this extra investment and resource from Dennis will mean we can continue to build on that success.”
The increased investment in the title follows Dennis Publishing’s recent acquisition of the title from I Feel Good Publishing (see New Acquisition Makes Dennis Feel Good) and James Brown’s recent decision to step down as publishing director (see Lad’s Mag Pioneer Turns His Back On I Feel Good).
