Dimbleby Out Of BBC Chairman Race

BBC Logo David Dimbleby is the latest name to rule himself out of the race to become the next chairman of the BBC following Michael Grade’s surprise departure for ITV last year.

Last week it was revealed that another of the favourites to take on the role, Lord Puttnam, would also not be in the running as he had decided against applying (see Lord Puttnam Out Of BBC Chairman Race).

According to a report in today’s Guardian there is growing concern at the Corporation about the lack of suitable candidates willing to take on the chairmanship.

Michael Grade left the BBC last November in a shock move which saw him become executive chairman of ITV following a drawn out saga to find a replacement for Charles Allen (see BBC Chairman Jumps Ship To ITV Top Job).

Last week the BBC Trust approved plans for the Corporation’s iPlayer on-demand TV service, although with some significant changes intended to protect to protect competition (see BBC Trust Approves iPlayer Service).
