Mark Dinning has returned to Emap to edit Empire magazine, after two years with Future Publishing.
Dinning has been the editor of Future’s title Total Film for almost a year-and-a-half, and during his reign the magazine enjoyed its most successful period in its nine-year history.
He first joined Empire as a staff writer in November 1999, before rising to news editor and then features editor. In July 2003 he moved over to the Zoo launch team, taking on the role of showbiz editor when the title launched.
In August 2004 he became editorial consultant at Future Publishing, working across a number of titles in both the Film and Music sectors, before being appointed editor of Total Film in May 2005.
Dinning said: “I am thrilled to be returning to both Emap and Empire. I feel that the former is very much my spiritual home while the latter is a world-class publication without a peer in its market. It is also an awesome opportunity to be on board at such an exciting time in the movie industry.”
Colin Kennedy, outgoing Empire editor who has been appointed as digital creative director of Emap Performance, added: “After flirting with the dark side it was time for Mark to come home. Without doubt, Empire editor is a job Mark was born to do. Mark’s passion, clarity and attention to detail will raise Empire to the next level and guarantee a healthy future for the venerable title for years to come.”
