Discovery Launching New Channel On Freeview

Discovery Communications is launching a new channel brand in the UK following its purchase of a Freeview slot in a competitive auction.

The broadcaster, which owns channels such as The Discovery Channel and Discovery Science, will offer the channel free of charge, in a move away from its pay-TV model.

It is expected that the Freeview slot acquisition will significantly boost Discovery’s other channel brands in the UK.

It is likely that the broadcaster has made a multi-million pound investment for Freeview channel. In 2005, Channel 4 won a slot on the platform with a reported £10 million bid.
