Emap Automotive Hires New Ad Director To Drive Sales

Emap Automotive has announced the appointment of Steve Carroll as advertising director with responsibility for all of the company’s four wheeled motoring titles with immediate effect.

Carroll, who currently heads Emap Automotive’s performance tuning advertising division, will now assume the extra responsibility for the publisher’s mainstream motoring titles, including Car, Parkers, Classics and Land Rover Owner.

The move will attempt to build on Carroll’s success with cult performance motoring brand Max Power, where he has significantly upsized revenues over the past four years. A spokeswoman for Emap Automotive said: “This move perfectly balances consumer advertising at Emap Automotive, with Gareth Ashman in charge of two wheels, and Steve Carroll in charge of four.”

Earlier this year saw Emap launch several new advertising initiatives. The first of which was to secure a bespoke cross-media campaign with Electronic Arts to promote the launch of its new Need For Speed Underground 2 computer game across its range of Max Power branded media (see Max Power And Electronic Arts Feel The Need For Speed).

However, Emap’s automotive magazines face increased competition in the sector, with Dennis Publishing’s new motoring magazine, Test Drive Monthly, seeking to poach much of the division’s core readership. The title, which launched earlier this year, uses a dedicated media agency and in-house advertising team to run its sales operations (see Dennis Flattens Squirrel With Test Drive Monthly).
