Emap Poaches Eve Editor To Oversee Grazia Launch

Emap has poached Jane Bruton, editor of BBC Worldwide’s Eve magazine, to oversee the launch of its new weekly glossy for women.

Bruton joins as editor of Grazia, a long-awaited British version of the upmarket Italian magazine that offers readers a mix of fashion, celebrity gossip and style on a weekly basis.

Emap has ploughed more than £16 million in to the launch of the title, which it claims will transform the burgeoning women’s glossy market, currently dominated by monthly heavyweights such as Glamour and Cosmopolitan.

Commenting on the appointment, David Davies, the managing director of Grazia, said: “I am delighted we have secured the outstanding services of Jane and found someone who not only brings a wealth of experience to the Emap fold, but truly understands and embraces our ambitions for Grazia.”

Bruton had been editor of BBC Worldwide’s Eve magazine for three years. Prior to that she worked for IPC, where she oversaw the monthly interiors title Living Etc. Burton will join Emap on 1 December, she said: “The opportunity to work on the launch of such an innovative new magazine, and transform the news-stand as we know it, was simply too good to turn down.”

Grazia will hit the news-stands next spring and will aim to achieve a circulation of 150,000 within the first twelve months. The title is aimed at 25 to 45 year-old women in the high spending ABC1 social bracket. It aims to reach breakeven within three years (see Emap Launches Grazia As UK’s First Weekly Glossy).

Meanwhile, Bruton will be replaced at BBC Worldwide with Sara Cremer, who joins Eve at the end of this month with more than ten years experience in the magazine industry. Cremer is currently executive editor of new product development and previously spent four years as editor of New Woman, during which time she oversaw an extensive redesign of the title.

Publishing director, Jo Morrell, said: “Jane and her team have done an amazing job over the past two years to establish Eve as a serious player in the women’ s market and I want to take this opportunity to thank them for their hard work and commitment. I am thrilled that Sara is joining us as the title moves into its next stage of development.”

The latest ABC results for the six months to June 2004 reveal an impressive performance for Eve magazine, which saw its circulation increase by a solid 14.4% year on year to 150,069, as its mix of fashion, beauty and health continued to prove popular with older, thirty-something women.
