Emap Radio Poaches Taylor From Virgin

Steven Taylor Virgin Radio’s station manager, Steve Taylor, has been appointed creative commercial director for Emap Radio, leaving Virgin to help Emap reinforce its commitment to generating creative solutions for clients.

Taylor will lead the award-winning teams delivering to national, regional and local customers across all of Emap Radio’s brands. The focus will be on compelling ideas, engaging listeners and delivering outstanding customer service across sponsorship, promotions and other non-traditional revenue streams.

The new position will see Taylor predominantly based at Emap Advertising. He will report to Dee Ford, group managing director of Emap Radio and be working closely with Mark Story managing director of radio programmes and Karen Stacey, broadcast sales director at Emap Advertising.

Commenting on the appointment, Karen Stacey said: “Emap Advertising is absolutely delighted to welcome someone with Steve’s credentials into our business. Customer service is key to us and to our advertisers, Steve will be crucial in helping us to develop the commercial opportunities for our clients that will deliver effective communications and stand out for their brands.”

She added: “This is a very exciting time for radio at Emap, and Steve’s considerable track record in radio will further strengthen our senior team.”

Emap Advertising recently secured a deal with beer manufacturer Carlsberg which sees them run their first ever magazine promotion through the August issues of Emap’s men’s magazine portfolio, with a five month campaign positioning Carlsberg Export Extra Cold as a stylish premium Danish export(see NewsLine).

The deal, brokered by ZenithOptimedia, will run across titles including Arena, FHM, Q, Empire and Mojo, with the creative for the campaign inspired by Carlsberg’s native country Denmark.

Emap recently announced the continued strong performance in its UK consumer magazine division, Adman Broadbent, chairman of Emap said: “Consumer magazine circulation in the UK continues to show good growth with particularly strong performances from the group’s portfolio of weekly titles.
