Emap Secures Sponsor For New Woman Relaunch

Emap Elan has announced an overhaul of its New Woman website and a five-figure sponsorship deal with Littlewood’s internet shopping service, LX Direct.

The deal will see the LX Direct brand sponsoring the new website’s fashion, shopping, celebrity and health sections. Littlewood’s will also be featured throughout advertorials, site buttons and banners as well as a competition to win £1000 of LX Direct vouchers.

The move marks a significant step forward for the site, signalling the first wave of interactive developments under Emap’s newly restructured interactive team. The company announced its intention focus more clearly on its interactive and online brands earlier this month, installing Catherine Hanly as managing editor of Emap Elan, reporting to Carmel Hayes, the company’s development director (see Emap Announces New Interactive Team To Boost Big Brands).

The team have been charged with enhancing Emap’s current crop of online offerings, as well as increasing profit and improving website content. The new site promises to combine the humour, glamour and attitude of its magazine counterpart, with exclusive online services such as “Celebrity chat” and the “Celebrity Spy” areas.

She added: “Popular channels will remain, however, we are firmly committed to providing the best possible service, and have therefore developed new and exciting content that will retain and improve the editorial quality and glamorous look of the existing site.”

Newwoman.co.uk lays claim to being the worlds first “glossite”, what Emap dubs a “glossy magazine on the web”, and publishes 95% original content. The magazine has seen a resurgence recently, with current circulation at just over 290,000, however, this is still well below the title’s peak of 320,780, reached in 1988.

Emap has recently closed a number of magazines across its portfolio, with J-17, The Face and Internet Magazine all suffering closure. While the company will retain ownership of The Face brand, allowing for a possible revival of the title in the future (see Emap Closes Face After Failing To Find Buyer).
