Facebook is happy to leave innovation to Apple, according to Facebook’s head of mobile partnerships EMEA Fergal Walker.
Speaking at MediaTel Group’s Come on Mobile… Stand Up and Deliver! event on Friday, Walker talked of Facebook’s “luxurious position”, which enables it to focus on its core product.
“Apple are good at creating markets,” he said. “We don’t have to be the innovator.”
Facebook’s focus is to increase users, Walker explained. He also said the company has no direct plans to monetise mobile at the moment.
“We are just trying to grow our user-base… there is a lot to do, just keeping the servers running. We are not in the [mobile advertising] space now – if and when it does happen, it will be a strategic decision.”
