FHM Hopes For Festive Success With PSP Web Channel

Emap’s flagship men’s magazine, FHM, is to cash in on the latest teenage craze for mobile gaming with a new section of its online offering devoted entirely to Sony’s Playstation Portable (PSP) console.
The new channel, due to launch on 28th November, will offer users a range of ready-formatted content for their PSP consoles, from images and video clips to viral teasers for content from FHM.com’s most popular properties, including High Street Honeys, Cover Girls of FHM and Championship of Women.
Ten “content packs” will be made available to users initially, with free of charge content including images and video clips. Users will be able to download content to their computers before transferring it to their PSP.
Amongst the planned contents of the content packs is behind the scenes footage of selected Cover Girls and High Street Honeys, as well as interviews and exclusive FHM images of the girls featured.
The new channel is designed to enhance user experiences of FHM.com, as well as promote pay-per-view content such as High Street Honeys, Cover Girls and mobile content already offered by the website.
FHM plans to drive awareness of the channel through its existing database of 400,000 FHM.com users in time for the Christmas period, when PSP sales are expected to be high.
The magazine also plans to utilise the PSP’s wireless internet browsing capabilities to create a browse-able version of its site in the near future.
James Mannion, editorial director at FHM.com explained the brand extension, stating: “Here at FHM.com we see consoles like the PSP as key to extending the reach and scope of FHM.com beyond a desktop PC. With 1 million PSP consoles in the market at Christmas, FHM.com want to capitalise on the demand for PSP content.
“Our user base are a perfect fit with PSP users and we are confident our content will provide interesting and exclusive content, relevant to them.”
Last year saw FHM.com expanding its consumer offering, with a new channel dedicated to style and fashion advice. The channel represented what FHM describes as the “ultimate style guide to life,” building on the site’s existing fashion and grooming content (see FHM Boosts Style Content With Dedicated Online Channel).
