New statistics have shown that FilmOn.com’s UK viewing figures have overtaken rival free internet TV service TVCatchup for the first time.

The traffic monitoring site Alexa revealed that after a six month period in which FilmOn has been closing the gap between itself and TVCatchup, the third week of February finally saw FilmOn overtake its competitor.

The BRIT Awards led to a huge surge in viewers for both those that streamed the event live and those that recorded it via FilmOn’s free cloud service.

Alki David, CEO of FilmOn said: “This is a fantastic achievement and it proves that audiences in both the UK and worldwide now see FilmOn as the number one destination for live television.

“In addition to viewers watching The BRITS live we also saw a large increase in the number of people who recorded the event using our free cloud service.

“We have more channels and video content than TVCatchup and Netflix combined. Our service is free in standard definition (SD) and we have ten hours recording time, which TVCatchup does not have.”

FilmOn currently has more than 500 free channels and has recently announced licencing deals with Disney, ESPN and Fox.
