Euro 2008 dominated the TV ratings this weekend, with peak figures of nearly 9 million viewers tuning in to see the Spain v Italy quarter final last night.
Spain knocked Italy out of the competition, winning 4 – 3 on penalties, in front of more than 8.9 million adult viewers on BBC One.
ITV 1’s match between Russia and Holland on Saturday pulled in 8.3 million adult viewers at its 10pm peak – Russia came through with a surprise win of 3 – 1 in extra time.
7.6 million adult viewers watched an eventful last 15 minutes of the Turkey v Croatia game on BBC One at 10.15pm on Friday, both teams scored a goal at the end of extra time but Turkey finally won on penalties.
Channel 4’s Big Brother lost out to the football all weekend and only got an average of 3 million adult viewers from 9 – 10pm on Friday evening, despite an eviction programme with Davina interviewing former housemate Alex and adding new entry Stuart to the mix.
A 9% audience share watched the latest updates from the Big Brother house last night, an average 2.1 million adult viewers between 9 – 10pm.
ITV 1’s Taggart failed to rival the football as well last night but did attract 3.6 million adult viewers, a 15.7% audience share from 9 – 10.30pm.
