ITV Logo By far the biggest audience last night was for ITV1’s Spain v France World Cup coverage, with a peak of 9.6 million adult viewers watching a great game of football where the French eventually emerged as 3-1 winners.

An average audience of 7.2 million adults (a 36% audience share) watched as Spain tried their hardest to record their first win over the French in a World Cup match.

The second largest audience of the evening was for Eastenders on BBC1, which began at the same time as ITV1’s football coverage, 7.30pm. The soap attracted a peak audience of 7.6 million adults and an average of 7 million (a 41% audience share).

Rogue Traders, on BBC1 at 7pm, also managed some impressive figures, with a peak of 5.2 million adult viewers and an average of 4.9 million (a 33% audience share).

The Brazil v Ghana match, whose coverage began at 3pm on ITV1, attracted a peak of 5 million adult viewers and an average of 2.8 million (a 32% audience share) who saw the Brazilians run out as 3-0 winners.

Big Brother managed a peak audience of 4.5 million adults in its 9pm time-slot and an average of 4 million adult viewers (an 18% audience share).

The biggest ABC1 Men figures of the night went to Spain v France, with a peak of 3 million viewers and an average of 2.2 million (a 51% share of the audience).
