Freeview to get a programme guide makeover

Freeview’s changes to its Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) will result in easier browsing between channels and open up space for new services.

The changes will allow for 100 entertainment and 20 HD channels on Freeview HD. A slot for local TV channels will also be reserved throughout the UK.

Some channel numbers are set to change on Freeview, but genres will retain their existing positions.

A dedicated section of the guide will be devoted to the development of internet-delivered services, following the successful recent launch of Connect TV.

The changes will roll out on September 19 2012, when viewers will need to retune their Freeview equipment to pick up the revamped EPG. On-screen messages will prompt users as to the change nearer the time.
