Future acquires US-based Purch for £106m

Future plc, the publisher of digital and print titles including TechRadar, Total Film and Gizmodo, has announced plans to acquire the consumer division of digitally-led publishing and marketplace platform, Purch.

The acquisition, worth £105.7m (USD$132.5), will give Future the number one position in consumer tech publishing in the US as it combines Purch’s leading consumer tech titles – including Tom’s Guide, Tom’s Hardware and Top Ten Reviews – with Future’s TechRadar.

There will also be an opportunity to increase the scale of Future’s science and knowledge divisions through the acquisition of titles such as Space.com and Live Science.

Zillah Byng-Thorne, Future’s CEO, has said she is “impressed” by Purch’s technology platforms and has branded the announcement a “big step forward” for the publisher.

“The two businesses share similar cultures – we both share our audiences’ passion, we’re data-driven, ambitious and both have an innovative mindset. From day one Future will be number one in the US consumer technology sector, and beyond this, we see clear opportunities for combined growth,” she said.
