Future Publishing Hands Auditing Business To ABC

Future Publishing has appointed ABC to carry out circulation audits for all of its 50 magazine titles, spanning the technology, games and entertainment sectors.

ABC claims the move, which comes at a time when there has been an increase in the amount of auditing work being carried out, recognises that circulation auditing is an area of speciality in its own right.

Martyn Gates, ABC’s director of newspapers and consumer magazines, said: “Securing the contract to undertake the circulation audits for this major publisher is another significant step in the development of our audit service, and comes at a time when we are increasing our audit service for the consumer magazine sector.

He added: “ABC takes great pride in the close relationships it builds with its members. By providing Future Publishing with additional audit services we can not only reinforce this relationship, but work even closer with them and increase the value of their membership.”

Future Publishing currently publishes a range of specialist consumer magazines including Official PlayStation 2 Magazine, Total Film and Redline. The company also recently announced plans to launch at least nine new magazines over the next twelve months (see Future To Launch Raft Of Titles Over Next Year).

Chris Spratling, retail sales director at Future Publishing, said: “Verifying circulation figures is extremely important in supporting the integrity of our magazines. We are delighted to be working with ABC who can provide us with more than just a verification of our circulation. This closer relationship will enable us to benefit from a broader expertise of industry agreed rules.”

Earlier this month BSkyB completed its first ever ABC Electronic audit, delivering accountable traffic figures for its portfolio of websites for the three months to August. The ABCe certificates, issued for June, July and August, provide numbers of unique users and individual page impressions (see Sky Completes First ABCe Website Audit).
