Future UK to merge three of its online platforms

Future UK has announced that it is to combine three of its online platforms into one entertainment website.

From November, TotalFilm.com, SFX.co.uk and GamesRadar.com will merge into a single platform to offer film, TV and game reviews and news.

The news comes shortly after the publisher announced that it is to sell off a number of its print titles, alongside a significant management reshuffle which saw the company’s former managing director, Nial Ferguson, step down from his role to head up Future’s content and marketing division.

The company reported a pre-tax loss of £30.6 million for the half-year ending 31 March, before announcing that it would sell its sports and craft portfolio to Immediate Media in an effort to simplify its business and focus on consumer technology markets.

The sale, which was completed in July, resulted in approximately 170 UK and 40 US job losses.

The company has said that its latest move would not affect any jobs. There will also be no changes to the print or digital editions of Total Film or SFX.

David Bradley, Future’s group editor-in-chief for film, said the move was representative of the company’s magazines and online brands working together.

“It brings our outstanding film, TV and book content to a whole new audience,” he said.

“I’m excited about how this great new platform will deliver a better online experience for our readers.”

Declan Gough, head of content and marketing for film, games and music, added: “This move demonstrates Future’s online strategy at its most joined-up. All of our film content will be moving to the new channel where the teams’ great work will continue seamlessly. And our readers and advertisers will soon see the benefits of being part of a huge combined audience.”
