GCap Media will be the first radio broadcaster to provide streaming radio for all of its station websites, through a technique called Multicasting.
The service will provide broadband high quality sound, equivalent to CD quality, giving a better listening experience. The company has launched the service in attempt to boost online listening and total listening hours.
Classic FM and Planet Rock are the first stations to go live with multicasting. Xfm, Choice FM and the One Network will follow soon after.
Andrew Singleton, GCap technology director, said: “With the growth of broadband in the UK, it is vital that we provide our listeners with a top quality listening experience that takes advantage of the greater bandwidth that broadband provides.
“At GCap, we have re-invented the model for radio streaming over the internet and this is a significant step in an initiative that will revolutionize the way that people can listen to the radio via a wide range of digital platforms and devices.”
