Online video is up 38% year on year in Germany, according to latest comScore data.
As many as 35.7 million German internet users viewed at least one online video in August 2009, with Google still claiming to be the most popular online video destination in the country.
Google sites were up 45% year on year to lead online video viewing in Germany, driven by the popularity of YouTube, which accounted for 99.5% of all videos viewed on Google.
Universal Music ranked second with 10.6 million viewers, after a 19% year on year increase, followed by two German sites – ProSiebenSat1 and RTL Group, which attracted 10.6 million and 5.6 million viewers respectively.
Deutsche Telekom, meanwhile, had the fastest rate of growth among the top ten video properties, growing 495 % over the past year to 3 million viewers in August 2009.
Over the one-month period, comScore found that Germany’s 36 million online video users watched 6.4 billion videos, which is an average of 178 videos per viewers.
Google sites were also the highest-ranking video property by videos viewed with 2.8 million, which represents 43% of the German online video market.
In total, each German online viewer spent around 16 hours watching videos in August, up by a significant 86% compared to August 2007. Out of those, the biggest group were males aged between 15-24 years old, who watched around 24 hours of online video per person over the month.
