Global hires Virgin Media’s Van Doorn to take ‘huge’ marketing step

Global has appointed Virgin Media’s consumer marketing boss Cilesta Van Doorn as the radio and outdoor giant’s new chief marketing officer.

Van Doorn will join Global in October when the current CMO, Adam Johnson, steps down in order to relocate to Australia with his family after six years at the company.

She will lead Global’s 80-strong marketing team which covers brand and commercial marketing, enterprise, customer support, events and communications. She will also join Global’s board and report to Group CEO Stephen Miron.

Miron said: “We couldn’t have found anyone stronger than Cilesta to help Global take its next huge step in the marketing of our brands, including Global Player, and her leadership across the other areas she will oversee.

“She is an incredibly creative, commercial and passionate leader with broad experience acquired over many years and she will make a great addition to Global’s senior leadership team.”

Van Doorn has been executive director, brand and marketing at Virgin Media since 2018 and leading a team of 70 marketers spanning brand advertisement and customer marketing as well as overseeing an in-house creative agency.

Virgin Media merged with O2 earlier this year to create a £31bn combined TV, broadband and mobile network provider. Van Doorn’s counterpart at O2, Nina Bibby, had pledged to leave the company if the merger went ahead.

Van Doorn’s most recent work for Virgin includes the award-winning “Faster Brings Us Closer’ campaign” Prior to Virgin, she spent 12 years at Tele2 in the Netherlands, latterly as managing director marketing, brand and communications.
