Golf Fans Hit The Net

According to Nielsen//NetRatings, Golf fans took to the net in droves this month to check out the latest happenings on both USOpen.com and PGATour.com. Both sites were amongst the top performers in the latest figures from the internet reasearch company although the usual suspects, AOL Time Warner, Yahoo! and MSN continued to lead the pack.

“Delivering up-to-the-minute event updates and game highlights, sports sites attract and retain a large fan base,” said Jarvis Mak, senior Internet analyst, NetRatings. “Golf sites capture the suspense of live tournaments while providing interactive offerings like real-time streaming broadcast and updates on player standings.”

Sport is considered an important driver for many new technologies, such as pay per view television (see Forecasts), as well as a lucrative business for broadcasters and teams alike. Many sports events have been the factor in households’ switch from analogue to digital television.
