Good Housekeeping set for relaunch

Good Housekeeping The National Magazine Company’s long-running Good Housekeeping magazine has undergone its first major redesign in 10 years.

Good Housekeeping, which was launched in 1922, will relaunch with its new-look on April 2, with changes that include two new columnists, professor Tanya Byron and TV presenter Aggie MacKenzie.

Channel 4’s How Clean is Your House? presenter MacKenzie will write her own column, titled ‘Bake of the Month’, while Byron will manage an agony aunt column.

Other new additions to the magazine will include an etiquette page, a nutrition page with a Q&A section, a life/work balance section and the return of the ‘Look for a Lifestyle’ section.

The May issue is also set to focus on helping families through the current economic climate with features such as ‘It’s cheaper to make it yourself’.

Lindsay Nicholson, who returned to the title at the end of last year as editorial director, has headed up the magazine’s revamp.

Nicholson, who was editor-in-chief of Good Housekeeping between 1999 and 2006, said the magazine has a significant role to play in the recession, claiming that consumers depend on the title – which will retain its cover price of £3.40.

In the latest ABC release, for July to December 2008, the Good Housekeeping suffered a 8.3% year on year decline, taking its circulation down to around 425,000 copies.
