Good Quarter For Digital Radio

Radio Set RAJAR figures for the third quarter of 2008 show that the percentage of adults listening to the radio via their mobile phones has risen once again.

According to RAJAR Q3 figures 12.7% now listen to the radio in this way, up from 12.2% in Q2. In Q3 2007 this figure was 9.2%.

Listening to the radio via a digital platform was up slightly period on period, by 0.4 percentage points to 31.4% of the population.

The Q3 figures also show that digital listening total hours number 188 million in the UK, an increase from 153 million for the same period a year earlier.

DAB radio now has an 11.3% share of listening on digital platforms, up from 8.6% in Q3 2007, while its weekly reach has increased to 17.8% of all digital listeners from 15.3% in Q3 2007.

Last week, Channel 4 abandoned plans for its digital radio venture due to the current financial climate (see Channel 4 Abandons Digital Radio Venture).

Ownership of DAB sets has also increased, up from 27.3% last period to 28.7% of adults (15+) in Q3 2008.
