In a move which could have a major impact on both consumers and retailers, Google has announced that it will be introducing a ‘buy button’ to its search results.
From now on, Google Search users will be able to make purchases without having to visit a separate website, as Google looks to make it easier for consumers to buy products featured in its shopping ads that appear alongside search results.
Speaking at the Code Conference in California on Wednesday, Google’s chief business officer, Omid Kordestani, said that the button will be introduced imminently and hopes to reduce “friction” for users so that they buy more things online.
Google is currently ranked as the second most-valuable global brand behind Apple, with a brand value of $173,652 million. The tech giant is also the world’s largest media owner – 136% bigger than the second-largest media owner, Disney.
The button is expected to appear only on mobile results.
