Google has appointed Proctor & Gamble’s digital marketing director Lucas Watson in a bid to attract more advertisers to YouTube.

The man behind the successful Old Spice ‘The Man Your Man Could Smell Like’ video campaign will join the search giant as president of YouTube advertising sales and marketing.

He will be responsible for driving worldwide digital ad sales after pushing P&G to spend more ad dollars online. Since Watson took the digital post in 2008, P&G has more than tripled internet ad spending to $169 million last year (most of their budget goes to TV).

Watson’s appointments reflects another push from Google to get a bigger slice of ad spend from marketers like P&G.
